How to organise your home.
When you begin to organise your home, there are a few simple systems you can implement to make the process easier. I have tried various approaches to organising my home, and now I will share with you some of the easiest things you can do. These tips are easy to implement but have a significant impact on how your home operates.
Organising your home makes it quicker and easier to complete everyday tasks and improves how effectively your home functions. A few simple tips can go a long way to organising your home. Let’s get started!
Storage – Declutter first!
It is often tempting to head to the store in search of nifty containers and tubs hoping they will magically organise our home. Before heading to stores to buy a variety of pretty new containers and organisers, it’s important to first declutter.
No amount of storage will help you get your home organised and efficient if you simply have too much stuff. It’s important to spend some time decluttering before attempting to organise your home. Removing the excess first, allows us to see which items we need and tailor our organising systems accordingly.
Belongings need a home.
All the items within our homes require a designated place to live. Not having specific places for items leads to stress and chaos within the home environment. When everything has a designated place, it becomes easier to find what you need and to put it back after use.
Family – Get everyone on board.
Any organisational system you put in place needs the cooperation of all family members to be successful. Talk to your family, share your plans and ask for their assistance in improving the household. Ensure your organising systems are easy for everyone to understand and follow. Do not hesitate to use labels to help family members identify where items belong.
Quick tips to organise your home.
Getting started with organising your home can feel overwhelming, but a simple plan makes it manageable. Begin by decluttering one area at a time, focusing on items you truly need and love. Use practical storage solutions to keep everything in its place. With consistency and a clear approach, you’ll create a space that’s both functional and refreshing.
Simplifying:
Decision fatigue leads to symptoms such as procrastination, avoidance and indecision, all states of mind that make it difficult to maintain a level of organisation in the home.
There are small things you can do to limit decision-making and manage your time more effectively. For example, simplifying your closet, automating bill payments and recycling meal plans.
Routines:
I have been using a family calendar for years and it’s integral to maintaining organisation during my day and the upcoming week. In addition, it allows me to plan for the month ahead. I review the calendar whilst making coffee as part of my morning routine.
